Beginning in the mid to late thirties, women start to have fluctuating oestrogen levels affecting the way they look and feel. In the late forties and fifties oestrogen loss leads to the menopause:

Short term: Hot flushes and mood changes.
Medium term: Rapid skin aging, vaginal and urinary problems.
Long term: Decrease in bone density and increase cardiovascular risk.

The term hot flush does not exist in Japan. It it believed that because Asian women consume large quantities of soya in their diet they experience fewer menopausal symptoms.

Soya is a plant particularly rich in isoflavines. These natural phyto-oestrogens are vegetable substances similar to female hormones. Their protective action is not limited to the menopause only (hot flushes, osteoporosis...) but they also help to lower cholesterol levels and help to improve skin hydration.
